Gender violence is present in fiction characters
I don’t use to watch lots of cartoons right now,
I mean sometimes I watch Rick and Morty or The Simpsons, but I can see that we
had all agreed that it is very sexist, racist, homophobic and more.
However, when I was little I loved to watch cartoons
such as Hey Arnold, Dora, the Explorer, The Rugrats, The Powerpuff Girls and
more, and by remembering and writing this, I can tell that mostly of their female
characters were strong and empowered women that didn’t follow the stereotype
imposed by our society.
A good example is The Powerpuff Girls, because it
combines the entertainment of children with their education in feminism. (WHICH
IS A LOT)
Despite this, cartoons that are address to
older audiences, -that we could think that are more conscious about certain
topics- such as Family Guy, The Simpsons, The Cleveland Show and South Park have
explicit reference to gender violence, racism and different types of discrimination.
Ps: The GIF is not a critique (to the show), is a compliment to one of the coolest cartoons <3
I love Powerpuff girls, i think it's a very good example of empowered women. Sadly, the new version is not so good.
